Iranian authorities have transferred civil activist and political prisoner Reza Ramezanzadeh to the ward housing dangerous criminals in Tehran’s Greater Tehran Prison, IranWire has learned.

The transfer took place on September 5, one week after he presented himself at the prison to start a one-year prison sentence.

Ramezanzadeh was arrested during street demonstrations in Tehran in October 2022 and released a few days later.

In May this year, Branch 26 of Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced him to one year’s imprisonment on the charge of “propaganda activity” against the Islamic Republic.

The Evin Prosecutor’s Office informed the civil activist of his sentence on August 27 and told him to hand himself over to Greater Tehran Prison two days later.

Previously, Ramezanzadeh was arrested and sentenced to prison over his participation in widespread demonstrations in November 2019.
