A ministerial committee condemned on Tuesday Iran’s ongoing meddling in the internal affairs of Arab countries.
The Arab quartet ministerial meeting is tasked with following up on the crisis with Iran and finding ways to counter its interference in the Arab region. The United Arab Emirates chaired the meeting, which was held in Cairo on the sidelines of an Arab League meeting.
The committee expressed its grave concern over Iran’s role in stoking sectarian tensions in Arab countries.
It also slammed its support and arming of terrorist militias in some of these countries, which has led to chaos and instability in the region.
Such instability is hindering efforts to resolve crises in the region through peaceful means, said the committee, calling on Tehran to cease its behavior.
It singled out Iran’s support for the Houthis militias in Yemen and their launching of ballistic missiles at Saudi Arabia. It deemed such actions as blatant violations of United Nations Security Council resolution 2216.
In addition, the committee condemned Iran’s ongoing disruptive meddling in Bahrain’s internal affairs.
It also praised a report, submitted by Manama, on Iran’s involvement in supporting the so-called terrorist Ashtar Brigades. The group is based in Iran and has received training in camps that are run by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and Lebanon’s “Hezbollah” party.
The Brigades was recently blacklisted as terrorist by a number of countries, a move welcomed by the committee.
In addition, it condemned Iran and Turkey’s ongoing meddling in the Syrian crisis and the dangerous repercussions it has on the country’s future, sovereignty, security, stability and unity.
Such meddling does not serve efforts that are being exerted to resolve the crisis through peaceful means and through the Geneva process, stressed the committee.
Turning to Yemen, it slammed Iran’s direct threat to international navigation in the Arab Gulf, Hormuz Strait and Red Sea through its regional proxies.
