Germany hands over Iranian diplomat to Belgium over accusations of plotting attack on Iranian opponents

A German court has allowed the country’s authorities to hand over to Belgium an Iranian diplomat who is suspected of having been involved in a plot to attack Iranian opponents in France.

Assadollah Assadi, 46, an Iranian diplomat based in Austria is among a number of suspects arrested in Germany, Belgium and France and accused of plotting an attack against a gathering of Iranian opposition group, People’s Mojahedin Organisation of Iran (Mojahedin-e Khalq) on 30 June near Paris.

Tehran expressed its objection to the ambassadors of France and Belgium in Iran, as well as to the acting German ambassador in the country.
