Three inmates affiliated with prison guards raped a 22-year-old prisoner in Shiraz’s Adel Abad Prison in southwestern Iran.
An informed source told Javaneha website that the 22-year-old was gang raped by three older inmates, elements of the prison’s Intelligence Protection agency. The source, who asked that the raped prisoner remain anonymous said the young man has been detained for four months in the prison’s section 11 for getting into a fight.
“The victim filed a complaint to the prison authorities. The authorities not only didn’t help, but they threatened to send him to solitary, where the conditions are worse,” the source added.
Horrid conditions in Adel Abad Prison
Shiraz’s Adel Abad prison is notorious for its horrid conditions and rape cases. In September, wrestling champion Navid Afkari was tortured and executed in the prison. His two brothers, Vahid and Habib are currently serving their lengthy prison terms.
Before his execution, Navid also shed light on the widespread instances of rape in the prison.
In an audio file that was published after his execution, Navid is heard telling the judge, “I was in the Guidance Ward for 10 days (in Adel Abad Prison) and I witnessed rape no more than a meter away from me. You are really dishonorable people!”
