The inhumane mullahs’ regime has launched new forged dossiers and issued heavy sentences against three political prisoners, in measures aimed at increasing pressure on these individuals.

The sentence issued for political prisoner Mohammad Amir Khizi has been escalated to 11 years behind bars and two years forced residency in the town of Neek Shahr (in the remote Sistan & Baluchistan province of southeast Iran).

The sentence of Majid Assadi has been increased to six years behind bars and two years forced residency in the town of Barazjan of Bushehr province, southern Iran.

The sentence of Payam Shakiba has also been elevated to 11 years behind bars. All the three political prisoners are amongst those held in hall 10 of ward 4 in Gohardasht Prison of Karaj, a maximum-security prison west of Tehran where inmates are forced to bear harsh conditions.

Mohammad Amir Khizi, 71, is a renowned bazaar merchant imprisoned for supporting the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) in the 1980s. To this day he has spent more than ten years in the Iranian regime’s medieval prisons. Currently, due to his senior age he is suffering from heart and intestinal illnesses, and yet he is deprived of any medical care. He is being held in dire and intolerable conditions.

Majid Assadi, a graduate of economics, was arrested on July 8th, 2008. After enduring four years behind bars he was released in June of 2015, only to be arrested 9 months later. To increase pressure on him, the authorities have deprived Assad of any medical care. Assadi is suffering from serious intestinal illnesses, low blood level and a severe case of inflammation on his spinal cord.

Payam Shakiba, studying political science before being expelled from college, was arrested on February 21st. Back in 2008 he was arrested along with five other college students for their activities in Zanjan University (northwest Iran) and released on bail after 22 months. He was arrested once again in 2010 and jailed for a year.

Political prisoners in jails across the country have responded with long hunger strikes to such cruel sentences, parallel to inhumane and illegal pressures. This also signals the deep necessity of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to show his wrath to Iran’s restive society. Officials of this regime have acknowledged time and again how the society’s patience is diminishing fast.

Hailing the resistant political prisoners, the Iranian Resistance calls on all international human rights organizations, especially the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Special Rapporteur for the human rights situation in Iran, Special Rapporteur for Arbitrary Detention and all other human rights entities to condemn these cruel sentences and demand the dispatching of a fact-finding mission to see into the conditions of political prisoners held captive by the mullahs’ repressive regime.
