As the anniversary of the anti-monarchic revolution in 1979 approaches, the media, and officials of the Iranian regime point to some glimpses of the miserable and disastrous predicament of the Iranian people ever since Ruhollah Khomeini set foot in Iran 43 years ago.

The void of the secular, democratic and patriotic organizations, which the Shah security service had decimated, enabled Khomeini to hijack the revolution betray the lofty ideals of the revolution, and establish a religious tyranny.

Now, four decades later, it is the state-run media that acknowledge the regime’s record full of failures and scandals, admitting the truth that this regime has acted as a foreign enemy against the Iranian people.

On February 3, the state-run daily Jomhouri Eslami (jepress.ir), while pointing to the first ten days of February of the 1979 revolution, which people now call the first ten days of suffering, “reviewed one by one” the regime’s achievements and performance, concluding that “establishing equity in various economic, judicial, political, social and moral spheres has not been achieved so far as a result of which today we are facing a lot of shortcomings and problems.”

On the same day, in an article entitled “43 Years After the Revolution,” the state-run Jahan-e-Sanat newspaper, acknowledged, “These days, however, it is getting harder day by day. Economic and livelihood problems are on the one side of the coin, and the distance between expectations and demands and the degree to which other slogans of the revolution have been realized is on the other side. We hear this shortcoming not only from the critics but also in the words of the officials.”

Overall, not only has the regime did fail to solve any problem of the people and the country in recent years but also has not ventured to establish social justice. Instead, it plundered the people, the country and eroded the people’s trust.

The situation is so critical that most regime officials are trying to disavow responsibility for the current disastrous situation in the country. In the words of Mostafa Hashemi Taba, a presidential candidate, they resort to “Who was it? Not me!”

On February 3, the state-run daily Shargh wrote, “43 years after the victory of the revolution, we import about 25 million tons of agricultural products annually, and even though we celebrated the self-sufficiency of wheat a few years ago, today we are a major importer of wheat. Who is the cause and responsible for this enormous loss? Why has liquidity increased and who is responsible for it?

“Who is responsible for the construction of opulent villas, reminiscent of the Shah’s time, and towers with luxury apartments up to 1,000 square meters in these 40 years? These towers are built on earthquake faults and in narrow alleys.

“According to the former central bank governor, over the past 40 years, $350 billion worth of foreign exchange and gold have been sold in the open market, with buyers primarily smugglers and capital exporters. Nevertheless, who is responsible for the currency problem we face today, despite all the foreign exchange assets?

“Who forces the honorable people to work as porters, garbage collectors, mean and illegal jobs?”

The Iranian people have replied to all these questions many times over the past 43 years in the form of frequent protests and uprisings. While targeting the regime’s supreme leader, they have shown the world who they see as their main enemy and the cause of all their misery and suffering.

Not surprisingly, in his most recent speech on January 30, 2022, Khamenei tried to fend off responsibility, “If government officials had been more supportive and more vigilant during these years, our situation would have definitely been better than it is today.”

After the November 2019 deadly uprising, he plainly pointed to himself as the main decisionmaker as reported by the state-run TV on November 19, 2019, “If the heads of the three branches decide, I support it. I said this, I support it. These are the head of the branches who sat down and backed the experts they decided for the country, that decision must be implemented.”

This is the result of a revolution hijacked by the mullahs.
