The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) and the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) have reported that Iran’s Intelligence Minister, Mahmoud Alavi, recently said that if Western leaders continue to push Iran in a certain direction, then the country would not be to blame if nuclear capability is acquired.

“The Intelligence Minister’s comments prove that this is not the case at all, as has been suspected for many years,” the Iranian Resistance said in their report, “Policymakers in the West should keep this in consideration when responding to the regime’s nuclear threats.”

The regime fervently maintains its claim that the nuclear work is purely for peaceful purposes, such as scientific research and power generation, while they continue with their threats, blackmail and ultimatums in order to coerce the international community to comply with their demands.

The MEK previously reported that Iran had started to enrich its uranium to 20% at its Fordow nuclear site, just before the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) illegally hijacked a South Korean chemical tanker, the Hanguk Chemi, in the Persian Gulf. This was seemingly an attempt to get the international community to give into its demands of getting money released that had been frozen in South Korean banks by US sanctions.

Before the tanker hijack incident, which happened in early January, the IRGC had already been accused of terrorist kidnapping when trying to secure prisoner swaps from foreign adversaries.

With President Joe Biden recently taking office in the United States, and stating his hopes of re-joining the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Iran have taken this opportunity to push for the economic sanctions, that the US put in place after leaving the nuclear deal in 2018, to be lifted. However, Biden did say that he would not re-join unless Iran met its obligations and hinted that their other malign behaviour would need addressing.

“It [the regime] played hard on the peaceful nature of its nuclear program…the US maintained that Iran would have to become compliant with the terms of the nuclear deal before there was any sanctions relief,” the MEK said.

During the Intelligence Minister’s statement, he referred to the peaceful nature of the regime’s nuclear program, but then followed with his nuclear threat, making the regime’s true nature clear that they can’t be trusted and showing that they will do whatever it takes in order to achieve their goals.

The said, “This is part of the regime’s propaganda. Its propaganda machine is huge and involves large networks of foreign ‘journalists’ and lobbies across the world.”

Acting undercover, many of these operatives are not seen for what they are and have been able to manipulate the international community from the inside. This explains why Western policymakers are so conciliatory towards the regime and why many of them believe that putting appeasement policies in place will moderate the regime.

“The more the West turns a blind eye to the regime, the more emboldened it becomes. This is something that has been proven time and time again,” the MEK wrote. “It would be in the best interests of the international community and the suppressed people of Iran if this changed.”
