Sayyad Darvishi, the brother of protester Farjad Darvishi, who was killed by Iranian forces during the anti-government uprising of Women Life Freedom in Orumiyeh, West Azerbaijan Province, was arrested by the Intelligence Organisation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in the city almost two weeks ago.

The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned that the Revolutionary Guards’ intelligence forces took Darvishi to one of their detention facilities within the city,

In a recent phone call, the intelligence service contacted the civilian’s family and told them that their son would be handed over to the judiciary after interrogation.

Since his arrest, Darvishi has been denied the right to communicate with his family.

In recent months, he has received repeated telephone threats of arrest from the IRGC’s intelligence service.

Additionally, on 20 September, security forces intervened to prevent the commemoration of the first anniversary of the killing of protester Farjad Darvishi by state forces in the village of Balou in Orumiyeh.

Farjad Darvishi, 23, was killed by military-security forces’ gunfire during anti-government protests in the Vali-e Asr neighbourhood of Orumiyeh on 20 September 2022.
