Iran’s military has bolstered its naval capabilities with the addition of the Shahid Bahman Baqeri drone carrier warship to the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) naval fleet in the Persian Gulf. The warship was officially inducted during a ceremony in Bandar Abbas on Thursday, marking a significant advancement in Iran’s defense capabilities.
The Shahid Baqeri warship is equipped with cutting-edge technology, capable of deploying multiple drone squadrons, launching and recovering unmanned combat aircraft, and operating various reconnaissance and strike drones. The vessel strengthens Iran’s ability to project power and secure its national interests, both in the Persian Gulf and in distant waters.
The ship is not only a military asset but also provides specialized medical facilities, including an operating room, coronary care unit, radiology, and dental services. Additionally, the vessel features sports amenities, such as a multi-purpose sports hall and a gym, highlighting its multifunctional design.
Major General Mohammad Baqeri, Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces, emphasized that Iran’s military has evolved significantly since the Islamic Revolution. Where more than 90% of military equipment was once imported, today over 90% of Iran’s military hardware is domestically produced by Iranian scientists. This self-reliance marks a crucial step in increasing Iran’s defense and deterrent power, ensuring the country’s national interests are safeguarded.
