In the past eleven months, world powers have done whatever it took to encourage Tehran to abide by the 2015 nuclear deal. Instead, the mullahs of the Iranian regime only played with words. In a statement on August 29, Ebrahim Raisi said that there was, “No way back to nuclear deal if the probe goes on.”

The regime has clearly announced that it is actively pursuing nuclear extortion and would never put its weaponry projects aside. The safeguard probes were the essential clause of any deal with the Iranian government, ensuring it would not intend to acquire nuclear weapons. The inquiries were also to extend the breakout time for the mullahs’ bomb-making program at least.

Despite efforts from international powers, Raisi practically put an end to months of negotiations in Vienna, declaring that Tehran would not allow the verification process by the UN nuclear watchdog.

Wall Street Journal correspondent Laurence Norman said, “If that’s where Iran now is, then we’ve come full circle back to start of Vienna talks, and the deal looks far less likely.”
Iranian State Propaganda Over the Nuclear Deal

During the past week, the regime has propagated about a victory in Vienna, claiming that its negotiators could make certain achievements as they granted insignificant concessions.

On August 26, the official IRNA news agency quoted Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian as saying, “[In the Raisi government], we made many efforts to remove the sanctions, and we are at the final stages. I think [the differences] would be solved if the Americans deal realistically.”

Additionally, the Revolutionary Guard-Quds Force (IRGC-QF) affiliated news agency Tasnim reported that the Vice-President in Financial Affairs, Mohsen Rezaei had said, “Reviving the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is possible.”

The Parliament [Majlis] National Security chair Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi also told the semiofficial ILNA news agency that “it seems that the counterparties have agreed over the main frameworks during the recent negotiations.”

Day 1, Day 100, Tehran Refuses Verification

For the first time, in August 2002, the Iranian opposition group, the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) revealed Tehran’s clandestine nuclear activities. On August 14, 2002, NCRI-U.S. representation deputy director Alireza Jafarzadeh unveiled that the Iranian government was enriching uranium to weapon-grade purity in the non-declared sites of Natanz and Arak.

Iranian officials frequently claim that their nuclear programs are “peaceful.” However, they have never clarified why they kept it secret until the NCRI exposed it in 2002. It is also unclear why they severely reject safeguards and probes by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

On September 17, 2013, IRGC chief-in-command Hossein Salami stated, “All these hurdles in the atomic aspect are due to the [Mojahedin-e Khalq (MEK)] propaganda, which posed heavy cost regarding sanctions on our country.”

Head of the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization (IAEO), Mohammad Eslami said, “The MEK launched a campaign of mischief, malice, and sedition since our nuclear industry began. They would question Iran’s nuclear program’s legitimacy and peaceful core.”

Eslami has also spoke sarcastically about the advanced Gama-ray system, plasma studies, cancer treatment, infant screening, and removing pistachio pests, while the government has continuously failed to address its citizens’ vital needs. With Raisi at the helm in the regime, essential food staple prices have soared by more than 100 percent.

In May of this year, thousands of people took to the streets to protest the regime officials’ decision to increase the prices of bread, cooking oil, and other foodstuffs. The government, of course, responded with violence and quelled public grievances, killing at least five protesters and injuring and arresting many more.

The government has also abandoned millions of challenging patients, left without support, as they refuse to import necessary medicines. Under Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s order, Tehran avoided procuring credible coronavirus vaccines, leading the country to the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh peaks of Covid-19 waves, creating thousands of victims.

Eslami and Raisi have also bragged about the satellite industry, even though the Russian embassy in Tehran made it clear that Moscow had produced the so-called ‘Iran-made’ Khayyam satellite. On August 10, Iranian Space Organization chief Hassan Salarieh announced that “A Russian company made the Khayyam satellite on the order of Iran. The project estimated around $40 million.”

In regards to the infant screening drop—another Eslami’s claim, there has been no day that has passed by without hearing reports of finding newborn babies in waste bins due to the intolerable poverty across the country.

The regime has also boasted about manufacturing Oxygen-18 and nuclear technology while, at the same time, citizens are left to rummage through waste to make ends meet, and patients’ families are unable to find ways to save their loved ones, except to pray.

Why Tehran Refuses Verification if It Has Achieved Medical and Tech Accomplishments?

Eslami said, “This is a component of power and power-building, and the enemies don’t want that we possess it. However, the Islamic Republic has crossed this boundary, and we will expand this capability.”

On the other hand, critics question the claims of Iranian officials’, saying, “What are Tehran’s concerns over safeguards if the country has crossed out this boundary?” and “Why the government hides ‘peaceful’ programs?”

The regime’s nuclear program was never peaceful, and it began in order to acquire nuclear weapons. This was confirmed by Ali Motahari, the former deputy speaker of the Majlis on April 24. He said, “When we started nuclear activities, our goal was to make a

On July 17, two officials close to Khamenei reiterated threats about producing nuclear weapons. In an interview with the Young Journalist Club (YJC), Mohammad Javad Larijani, a former judiciary official, said, “No one can prevent us from producing a nuclear weapon if Iran concludes to produce it.”

In an interview with the Entekhab website on the same day, Khamenei’s advisor Kamal Kharrazi stated, “We have the technical capabilities to produce a nuclear bomb; however, we have yet to have such a decision. Iran would not negotiate about its missile programs and regional policies because it is equivalent to surrender.”

He added, “We enriched uranium from 20 percent fissile purity to 60 percent only within a few days. We can easily reach it to 90 percent alike.”

Back in February 2021, in an interview with the state-run TV Channel Two, former Minister of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) Mahmoud Alavi said, “In his Fatwa, the Supreme Leader announced that the production of nuclear weapons is Haram [forbidden] and contrary to Sharia, and the Islamic Republic would not pursue them.”

Alavi blamed the West for producing nuclear weapons, saying, “However, if [foreigners] caught a cat in an awkward corner, it may behave unlikely to a free cat. It would not be Iran’s fault if they pushed Iran to that path.”

European security and intelligence agencies confirmed Tehran’s persuasion of nuclear weapons in their recent reports. According to the Swedish Security Service Yearbook report for 2021 (page 17), released in March of this year, “Iran also conducts industrial espionage such as primarily aimed at Swedish high-tech industry and Swedish products that can be used in a nuclear weapons program.”

On page 294 of the German Constitutional Protection Bureau’s report, it read, “The ambitious Iranian sponsoring technology/rocket program is not comprised of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) regulations, also known as the nuclear agreement with Iran. For this, the procurement activities in Germany are still high – with an increasing trend. In addition, the constitutional protection authorities in 2021 found a significant increase in the indications of Iran’s attempts at proliferation that are relevant to the procurement attempts of its nuclear program. When suspected of possible violations of the JCPOA, the BFV passed on the relevant information to the responsible authorities.”

In a nutshell, all of the evidence shows that the Iranian government began and continued the nuclear projects to acquire at least one atomic bomb, and the 2015 Iran nuclear deal failed to stop Tehran’s nuclear ambitions. In such circumstances, Tehran is playing a mouse-and-cat ploy to obtain adequate time for passing the sunset before inking a new deal.
