The Iranian Army awarded the Honorary Sacrifice Medal to the late commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force, Major General Qassem Soleimani, after the approval of the Supreme Council of Army Medals of the Islamic Republic.

The sacrifice medal is the Iranian army’s highest honor, approved by the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, Imam Ali Khamenei in 2020, in recognition of the bravery of 1,184 students from the Imam Ali Military University of the army.

According to Fars News Agency, this medal was awarded proudly by the Iranian army, in recognition of the sacrifices of Major General Qassem Soleimani.

The medal of sacrifice was previously awarded to a number of senior Iranian army commanders.

Major General Qassem Soleimani was assassinated by the United States on the night of January 3rd, 2020, after he and the deputy head of the Popular Mobilization Units of Iraq, Abu Mahdi Al-Mohandis, were traveling from the Baghdad International Airport to an undisclosed location.

The assassination of Soleimani by the United States prompted by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to respond by firing dozens of missiles at two bases hosting the American troops inside Iraq.

No U.S. soldiers were killed during the attack; however, several suffered post-attack head-related injuries.
